September 23-26

Please remember to turn in your field trip money for the museum and omni. We will be leaving at 9am on Monday.
We will begin to learn about Peace (a Fruit of the Spirit) as we read from A Child’s Book of Character Building.
In Music the children will practice moving slowly and gracefully to Mozart’s “Horn Concerto No. 1 in D Major” and flying quickly to the “Horn Concerto No. 2 in E-Flat Major” with their butterfly wings.
In Science we will begin to learn about butterflies and pretend to be Lepidopterists.  We will read excerpts from Nomads of the Wind and learn about the migration of the Monarch butterfly.
We will read “Butterflies” in our Christian Liberty Nature Reader, and the children will examine a model of the butterfly life cycle.  We will also read about butterfly migration in Exploring Creation. 

September 16-19

In Science we will read “Bird Watching”, “Field Marks” and “Benefits of Birds” in Exploring Creation. 
The children will also pretend to be animals as they move to a call response song entitled “Pole, Pole” from the Smithsonian Children’s Collection. 
We will continue to work on our picture study and Nature Boxes.
We are planning a field trip to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History on Monday, September 30. We will leave the school at 9 o’clock and return at 12 o’clock. “The Flight of the Butterflies” at the Omni Theatre begins at 10:15 (They begin seating at 9:45). We are also planning to visit the children’s area of the museum.  Admission is $8.50 for children and $16.00 for adults.  Please turn this in to Mrs. Hague by Thursday.
We will learn about Chefs as we continue our study of Community Helpers.  We are also planning to make bread this week.

September 9-12

We will begin working on painting and creating Nature boxes to use for the small treasures we find.
We will read “Joyfulness in the Bible” and “Joyfulness at Home” and paint illustrations of the stories.
In Music the children will practice skipping to “Skip to My Lou”.
In Science will learn about Habitats and play a game called “What’s That Habitat”.
We are planning a field trip to the Omni Theatre to see “The Flight of the Butterflies”.

September 3-5

In Music the children will play a game and pretend to be little birds flying through a window.  They will also practice clapping rhythms as we listen to “Fly Through My Window” by Pete Seeger.
In Social Studies will begin to learn about Community Helpers.  We will read Vicky the Vet and Animal Hospital, and the children will take turns playing in the Animal Hospital Center in the new Centers Room.
In Bible will read What is Love as we begin to learn about the Fruit of the Spirit.  We will also read, “Jesus Loves the Children” from The Bible in Pictures.
In Science will read, “What is Zoology” from Exploring Creation and begin to learn about birds.  The children will watch for birds with little binoculars and create bird gliders to experiment with on the playground.
Please be sure to send a snack each day for snack time.  Each child will have their own folder that they will take home and bring back to school each day.
