In Science, we will collect herbs and other items from the garden and playground to create a sachet. We will continue to learn about our Five Senses. This week we will be doing several activities using our sense of smell. We will introduce a lesson with Montessori materials to compare and match smells. We will also play a Hide and Smell game. We will read about the planet mars and how it has red dust.
In Social Studies, we will finish making our stick horses and have a rodeo with relay races. We will read L is for Lonestar and Armadillo Rodeo.
In Nature Study, the children will paint the purple finch and purple lilac. This is the New Hampshire bird and flower.
In Math, we will begin learning about fractions. The children will learn what half and quarter means. The children will practice writing numbers 1-60.
In Phonics, we will be reading words that begin with the letter “h”. Each child will be practicing how to write letter “j” and “h”. We are continuing to practice reading Surfer Girl.
In Bible, we will be finishing the Fruit of the Spirit, Love. Each student will draw one thing that they love the most. On Thursday, we will send a baggie home with the children. Please help your child to become aware of things that “smell” and choose one to share with the class on Monday.
This week we will be learning words that have the sounds “er”, “ir”, and “ur”. In Guided Reading we will be practicing Surfer Girl. We will review the letter “n” and start working on letter “j” in our Explode the Code workbook.
The children will be narrating The Nightingale and painting a picture of the bird. In Social Studies we will be learning about Missouri and New York. We will read Peter Learns Something He Hadn’t Guessed from The Burgess Bird Book. This story is about a bluebird and robin. We will continue studying about Texas and start making our stick horses for our rodeo.
In Science, we will read about the planet, Mars and begin learning a song about all of the planets. We will be mixing red and white paint on our easel to make pink.
In Music, we will be singing Texas our Texas, Home on the Range, Yankee Doodle, and Deep in the Heart of Texas.The children may bring their favorite book about space or birds to read during Circle Time.

Valentine Party!

The children had a great Valentine's Party. We made treat bags, cards, and had lots of goodies.
