April 23-26

The children will create a sketch of an orchid for their Nature Journals.
We are planning to harvest beets from our garden this week. 
In Bible we will read “King David” and “The Golden Ark is Brought Home” from The Bible in Pictures.

Please send $10.00 by tomorrow to help cover the cost of food and activities (we are planning to have a petting zoo).  Parents are invited to eat with us at 12:30 and enjoy the activities with their children. The children will create a bandanna for Texas Field Day. 

April 16-19

In Nature/Science we will read about inclined planes, and practice using inclined planes with an “Egg Drop” experiment and a “Penny Lift” experiment. 
In Art the children will begin a picture study of “The Millinery Shop” by Edgar Degas. 
The children will paint a picture of the Texas tortoise and horned lizard as we begin to learn about the State of Texas.
The children have been learning the words to a song that we are planning to perform entitled “Sunflower”.  We will be working on the motions this week.  We will perform before the school play on Thursday, May 10 at Trinity Church.  Adults are 5.00 and guests (children) are 3.00.  Be sure to mark your calendar!
In Bible we will read “David and Jonathan” and “David Finds Saul Asleep” from The Bible in Pictures.

April 9-12

The children will plant sweet peppers, begonias, and petunias into the garden. 
We will read the story of Persephone this week in Social Studies.
In Science we will experiment with wedges as we continue to learn about Simple Machines.
 In Bible we will read, “Saul is Chosen to be King”, “David the Shepherd”, “David sings to God”, and “David and Goliath” from The Bible in Pictures.
In Music the children will practice marching, waving, clapping, kicking, and snapping their fingers as they follow directions to the traditional Greek Music in “A Visit to My Friend” from “Children of the World”.

April 2-4

The children will make their own Easter necklaces and harvest carrots from the garden for Flopsy (our bunny).
We will sing our Easter songs and play a game called “What Can You Do, Mr. Rabbit”. 
The children will be narrating the Rabbit Hill by Robert Lawson.
Our Easter Egg Hunt will be at 3:00 on Wednesday.  Please send 12 filled plastic eggs to hide and tape them shut.  Remember to bring an Easter basket.
School will be closed this Thursday, April 5th for our Easter break.

March 26-29

In Social Studies we will read “Icarus and Daedalus from Ancient Myths and Legends. 
We will be reviewing Egypt on a map and identifying Greece.  The children will narrate about the Ancient Greeks and paint a picture of a horse and chariot.The children will be listening and narrating to The Tale of Benjamin Bunny and Jemima Puddle-Duck.
In Music we will sing “Peter Cottontail”, “In Your Easter Bonnet”, and “Bunny Hop”.  We will also sing and move to “New River Train” and “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” by Raffi as part of our study of wheels.  The children will move through “train tunnels” in the Motor Room as we sing.
Our Easter Egg Hunt will be on Wednesday, April 4, at 3:00.  Please send an Easter basket and one dozen filled eggs and tape them shut to prevent spills.  There will be a sign-up sheet for the party posted in the hall. 

March 19-22

In Science we will begin learning about simple machines. This week we will start studying and reading about wheels and axles.
In Gardening the children will be observing the tomato and strawberry plants in our garden.
In Nature Study we will be picking flowers from the garden to press on paper for our Nature Journals.
In Writing some of the children will practice writing the cursive Qq, Rr, and Ss. Other children will practice writing short vowels on lines.
In Music/Art we are planning to practice listening quietly as we fingerpaint to Chopin’s “Impromptu No.4, Op.66”. We will listen and move to “Wiggles, Giggles, and Jiggles” by Stephen Fite. We will also listen to a Social Story (book, CD) entitled, “Talking Loudly and Softly”.

March 5-8

In Gardening we will be planting strawberry and tomato plants into the garden. The children will pick peas from the garden and sketch the pea plants. We will also observe our onion plants that have been growing in the garden.
In Science the children will observe an Epidote and sketch it on paper for their Nature Journals. We will also be learning about the different kinds of metamorphic rocks.
In Music we will learn the words to motions to “In Our Garden”. We will also listen to a Social Story entitled “Use Your Words”.
Spring Break begins next week (March 12-15). Progress Reports will be handed out on Monday, March 19.
