The children have been feeding the ducks during playground and watching them swim in the small pool outside. The ducks will be moving to a farm at the end of May. This week we will be reading about the life cycle of a duck and learning about ducks. We are also planning to create thinking maps to represent the various types of simple machines. The children will practice sorting and placing the machines onto the proper magnetic map. In Music, we will learn how to greet people by listening to Social Stories. We will practice rhythms with instruments. Our class won the coin fundraiser. We will be having a donut party on the last day of school for our reward. We are planning an on-site water party for the last day of school. Please have your child wear a swimming suit to school that day and send a towel, sunscreen, water shoes, and a water gun or mister if you wish. The children will be going all around the playground, so please be sure to send shoes that will not be harmed by the water. We are planning to have a large, 3-laned slip’n slide.

The children did a great job at play practice. We all had fun at the park and enjoyed the nature walk together. Our performance will be at Trinity Christian Church on Thursday at 7:00. Please meet at the entrance near the playground (where we went in for practice) at 6:45pm.
In Social Studies we will be reading about The Buffalo Nickel and how it was like to live as a cowboy. The children will be practicing the Texas Pledge during circle time. In Art we are working on finishing our Degas paintings. The children have enjoyed decorating their sunflower shirts for our performance.

In Social Studies will read and narrate The Legend of the Bluebonnet. The children will also use colored pencils to color a picture of the bluebonnet for their portfolios.
The children will be sketching the blueberry plant and taking turns picking and eating blueberries from the garden. We will read, “A Screw is a Simple Machine” and “The Simple Six” as we work with screws in fine motor.
We are planning a field trip to Veteran’s Park immediately after our play practice on Tuesday, May 8. We will meet at the practice at 10:30 (see the permission slip attached for the location). We are planning to picnic at the park after our nature hike. Please bring a sack lunch and a drink. Please include a cold pak if you are sending a lunch box (lunch boxes will not fit into my ice chest). A large ziploc bag marked with a name will work best. You may also bring bread for the ducks if you wish.School will be closed on Thursday, May 3.
