We will be making Easter Bonnets this week as we learn the song,“In Your Easter Bonnet.” We will also be learning the song, “Here Comes Peter Cottontail.”
In Science the children will make their own Do the Bunny Munchy book that will help them review the different food groups. We will be reading about Uranus. We'll begin to explore our Sense of Touch. We will also introduce the Montessori textured boards.
In Math we will be counting nickels by fives. We will also be practicing how to write numbers by fives.
This week we will be reading about New Mexico. The children will be adding it to their maps. We will learn about the Roadrunner and the Yucca plant from New Mexico. Our Easter party will be on Thursday, April 9. Please send 12 filled plastic egg(with wrapped candy or prizes), and please tape them shut. The children may bring their own Easter Baskets. Our Easter Egg hunt will be at 2:30. There will be a sign-up sheet in the hall for the party. Please bring a jacket for playground. It has been chilly during morning recess.
This week we will be studying about different kinds of ducks. We will be painting the “Mallard” by Audubon. We will also read about the Common Loon from Minnesota.
In Phonics, we will be reviewing words that start with the letter “c”. The children will begin letter “l” in their Explode the Code workbook. We will begin practicing “Little Stories” by Gillingham and Stillman. This week we will practice reading Fat Sam.
In Bible we will be talking about what it means to be peaceful and how God wants us to be content or happy with what we have.
The children will be learning about Minnesota and adding it to their United States map. We will read about the Superior National Forest.
In Gardening we’re planning to plant and paint petunias and harvest our beets. We will also read Our Two Gardens.
On Tuesday, March 31 we would like to visit the duck pond at Veteran's Park after school. We will bring bread (you may bring something extra to feed the ducks if you like). Meet us at the duck pond immediately after picking up your child (the duck pond is adjacent to the playground). We hope that you can come (we would like to take pictures to include in their nature journal).
This week we will be learning about our sense of hearing. We will play listening games and use the sound cylinders in Science Center. The children will be reading about Saturn.
In Nature Study, the children will be learning about the American Robin. We will be reading about the lifecycle from egg to robin. We will also be narrating about the Audubon Robin Painting. Each child will paint their own Audubon painting of the American Robin.
In Math, we will be counting nickels and dimes. We will also practice writing our days of the week in order.
The children will be starting Explode the Code: Book C. This week we are learning words that begin and end with the letter “c”. We are also reviewing words that have the short and long “u” sound.
We will be pretending to walk in space with music to “Adventure in Space”. The kids will also dance to classical music with scarves while pretending to fly like birds.
We will be off next week for Spring Break. Have a wonderful holiday.
In Phonics, we will be practicing words that begin and end with the letter “d”. We will be writing words that have “ar” and “er” in our journals.
In Bible, we will be talking about being joyful and sing “Down In My Heart”. The children will be making their own Joyful pop-up card and reading Acts 16. We will be making smelly fruits with different flavors of jello. We will practice the Fruits of the Spirit song and draw pictures of what makes us feel joyful or happy.
We will be playing Bird Bingo in Science and reading about Jupiter. Each child will color the state bird and flower of Colorado. They enjoyed painting the Purple Finch. Each child has a baggy to find something smelly to share in class. Please help them to return it to share with the class by Thursday.
The children will be starting their new Math Workbook this week. We will be working on writing the days of the week, telling time, and adding numbers.
In Nature/Gardening we will harvest radishes from our garden. We will smell and plant chives, basil, spearmint, peppermint, lavender, dill, rosemary, and thyme. In Poetry the children will narrate a poem about geese flying. Please bring a snack to share for March if you haven’t already.
