Nov. 30-Dec. 3

In Music we will do Creative Movement to the "New Zoo Review" and play instruments to "I'm a little Snowflake".
In Bible we will paint the nativity to display in the hallway. We will also read about how the angels tell about Jesus' birth. We will also read about the shepherds visit to see baby Jesus.
In Social Studies we will be learning the different traditions of Christmas in Germany. We will watercolor and decorate a gingerbread house and learn about the advent calendar. Students will make their own gingerbread man puppet. We will read about how the people in Germany decorate their Christmas tree with apples, nuts, candy and glass ornaments.
In Science we will be learning about the different animals that live in the zoo. The children will color their own Zoo Cats book about lions, cheetahs, leopards, and jaguars.
We are collecting Christmas toys, clothes and non-perishable food items for a family that we have volunteered to help from Mission Arlington. The information about the children is posted in the hallway. Please drop off any items to Mrs. Hague by next Wednesday. The items will be given to Mission Arlington on Thursday, December 9.
In Phonics some of the students will be learning words that begin with letter "r". We will practice tracing and writing letter "r" as well as cutting and pasting pictures that begin with letter "r". Some of the students will be learning the sounds "ch" and "sh". Please practice these sounds at home.
Other students will be learning words that end with "mp" as in jump and "nd" as in hand.

November 16-19

In Music we will be making drums and doing the Rain Dance. We will also play Indian Jump to the Beat and the Indian Hoop Game. The children are also continuing to practice the Thanksgiving songs that they will be performing at the feast.
In Social Studies we will be reading about the Pilgrims sailing on the Mayflower. We will read what they ate and how they slept on the ship. The children will be making their own placemats to eat on for the feast. We will read a collection of poems from It's Thanksgiving and listen to a book and tape: Thanksgiving Mice.
Some of the students will be learning words that begin with the letter "t" and tracing and writing the letter "t". Some of the students will be reviewing sounds "ar", "er", "ir" and "ur". They will also be working on blends in thier Explode the Code Workbook.
Please be reviewing and practicing the letter names and sounds at home every evening as well as the books or word lists that are being sent home each week.
Our Thanksgiving Feast will be this Thursday at 11:15. The children will be learning new songs for the performance. They will be dressing up like Pilgrims for the feast. The children have enjoyed learning the motions for some of the Thanksgiving songs. They will perform first and then we will have our feast. Parents are welcome to attend and listen to the children sing.

November 9-12

In Phonics some of the students will be learning words that begin with the letter "k". Other students will be learning words that end with -ing, -s, and -es. Some of the students will be reading Ben Bug and others will be reading The Fog and Peg the Hen.
In Social Studies we will be finishing our Dreamcatchers. The children will be putting beads and feathers on them. We will be reading the Totem Pole and making our own totem poles. We will also play an Indian sign language game and read about the Pilgrims.
In Science we will continue learning about the Desert Habitat. We will read about snakes. The children will be planting collards and spinach seeds in the garden. They will also be sketching flowers that they see in the garden. We will be working on the Day 7 Creation page and talking about how we need to be thankful for everything that God has given us.
In Music we will be practicing "My Work Is Never Done" and "The Pilgrims Come to America". We will also be practicing the other songs the children will present at the Thanksgiving Feast.
Please be sure to turn in your Scholastic book order by this Thursday. Bring your items that you signed up for the Auction by this week. The sign up sheet is posted in the hall.

November 2-5

Our field trip to Mainstay Farms has been rescheduled to this Wednesday, Oct. 4. We will be leaving the school at 8:30. The tour begins at 9:30.
In Music we will be learning the "Land of the Silver" and "Over the River and Through the Woods".
We will be reading The Brave Little Tailor and narrating the story as a group. The children will learn the job of a tailor as they make their own book.
In Science we will be learning abou the Desert Habitat. The children will learn about the Elf Owl, Kangaroo Rat and the Zebra-Tailed Lizard.
In Social Studies we will learn about Indians. We will read Navajo Weaver and begin make Dreamcatchers.
Some of the students will be learning the letter "m" this week. We will write words that begins with the letter "m" in our Picture/Word Journal. We will also do writing/tracing activities in our Explode the Code Workbook A.
Other students will be reviewing the soft "c" sound and the soft "g" sound. They will learn the blends "sm" and "sn" in their Explode the Code Workbook and finish reading the Tim book.

Oct. 26-29

In Music the children will be making their own pumpkin tambourines. We will learn the "Five Little Pumpkins" song by Raffi.
Our Fall Party is Wednesday, October 28. Please remember to bring the item that you signed up to bring for the party. The party will begin at 12:00.
Our field trip to Mainstay Farms will be Thursday, October 29. We will leave at 9:30.
In Science we will be learning the different sounds farm animals make. We will also learn several farm families.
In Nature Study we will draw different kinds of gourds and cut open a pumkin to do several activities with seeds.
We will be reading Chicken Licken. We will also read the Nursery Rhyme, "Little Boy Blue".
Some of the students will be learning the letter "b". They will also make their own Little Boy Blue "B" book. Other students will be learning when to use a question mark or exclamation mark at the end of a sentence. They will learn what a compound word is and practice reading the Tim book.

Oct. 19-22

In Music we will learn the song "Leaves are Falling". We will practice skipping to "Skip to my Lou". The children will also learn motions to the songs "The Seed Cycle" and "Oat, Peas, Beans, and Barley Grow".
Our Fall Party is next Wednesday, October 28. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway to sign up for something to bring to the party. You may also dress up in a costume that day.
Our field trip to Mainstay Farms is Thursday, October 29. We will leave at 9:30. Please return the permission slip and pay $7 to attend by Thursday, October 22.
In Science we will learn about the Forest Habitat. The children will paint the animals that live in the forest such as the deer, raccoon, squirrel, and rabbit. In Nature Study we will observe the Oak Tree that we planted and draw it on paper for our Nature Journal. We will talk about the seasons and how they are changing and collect items that show the signs of Autumn. The children will plant peas and beets in the garden.
We will continue to narrate Snow White and begin reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will be doing several activities with this story. We will also read and color "Old King Cole".
Some of the students will learn the "f" sound and write words that begin with the letter "f". They will also be tracing and writing the letter "f".
Other students will be reviewing "ow" as in bow and "ow" as in cow. We will also review "oi" as in coin and "oy" as in boy. They will learn to capitalize "I" and practice putting a period at the end of a sentence. They will also begin reading the Al short "o" book.
