We will be reading and narrating the Aesop Fable, "The Dog and His Reflection". The children will be narrating about what the moral of the story might be and how it teaches us to be satisfied with what we have and be thankful for what God gives us. The children will also paint the illustration to go along with the Aesop Fable.
In Science we will be talking about our sense of taste. Each child may bring a food to share with the classs. You may bring food to share with the class. You may bring something sweet, sour, or bitter to share during snack time on Thursday. We will be digging in the garden this week and the children will be taking turns planting collard seeds and peas into the garden.
In Math some of the students learned how to measure all the sides of different shapes to find the perimeter. We are also learning about vertical and horizontal lines. Others are practicing recognizing numbers and adding and subtracting numbers. Be sure to practice recognizing and counting money each week (penny, nickel, dime, quarter).
Please be sure to practicey your sight word flashcards with your child each evening.
Feb. 14-17
The children enjoyed making cards for their family on Valentine's Day. The party was a blast! Thanks to all the parents who helped with our party. The kids enjoyed receiving their Valograms.
Some of the children are working on reading Book 4 of the Primary Phonics Readers. They have also been working on coding short and long vowels within a sentence related to the story.
In Dictation we will be reading and writing a verse from the Bible about love from John 4:19 "We love because he first loved us".
School will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21. Please be sure to send a jacket if needed for morning playground at 10:30. It is often still cool at that time even on warmer days.
Please send your zip-lock bag with something to smell and share during circle time by this Thursday. We will be taking turns presenting and guessing what each smell might be.

The children will be decorating sacks to hold the valentines that they will receive from all their friends on Valentine's Day.
Our valentine party will be on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14) at 2:30. There is a sign up sheet for the party in the hall.
Please send 15 valentines for your child to give to his/her friends on Monday, February 24
(Valentine's Day).

The children enjoyed painting the continent of China. We learned where China is located on the map. We will learn that it is the Year of the Rabbit. Each students will be coloring the different animals on the Chinese Zodiac Calendar as well as matching the stickers to the correct animal.
The children will be decorating Chinese dragons to give to thier grandparents on Thursday. We will also be decorating Chinese hats and necklaces to wearat our Chinese New Year Celebration/Feast. We willl be trying different kinds of Chinese Food on Thursday. Your child may also bring a lunchbox that day. Please be sure to bring the items that your child signed up for in the hallway. Bring enough for 15 kids and adults.
Grandparents Day is this Thursday, Jan. 27th. Dr. Flint will be speaking at 10:00. We will be having our Chinese Celebration/Feast from 10:30 to 11:00. Please let us know if you will have Grandparents coming, and how many.
