December 2-5

In Science will read “Drillers”, “Stitchers and Stickers”, and “Carpenters and Woodworkers” from The Truth About Animal Builders. In Music we will practice singing “Jingle Bells” and reciting our poem for our performance on Thursday, December 5th. In Art we will begin working on our Christmas ornaments this week. Our Winter Showcase will be on Thursday, December 5th. We will meet at The Met church at 6:30

November 18-21

In Science the children will learn about Owls as we read from Birds of Prey. We will be practicing our recitation of “Nest Eggs” by Robert Louis Stevenson and singing our Thanksgiving songs. In Art he children will work on their Indian vests and create little owls. Our Thanksgiving presentation will be at 11:00 on Thursday, November 21. School will be closed next week for Thanksgiving. We hope that you have a great holiday.

November 12-15

In Science the children will learn about how birds use their muscles and wings to fly. In Social Studies will learn about the Pilgrims as we read, “On the Mayflower” and “What Would the Pilgrims Take with Them?” We are planning to begin working on our Indian vests by dipping t-shirts in tea to dye them. Be sure to bring a white t-shirt by Thursday morning. In Bible we will read “Thankfulness at Home” and “Thankfulness at School” from A Child’s Book of Character Building.

November 5-8

In Art we will be easel painting and making pumpkin patches. The children will dot paint the wise old owl. In Science we will read "The Great Horned Owl" and sketch a foxtail fern. In Social Studies we will begin learning about the pilgrims and why they sailed on the Mayflower. The children will begin practicing songs for our Thanksgiving Feast. In Bible we will read about thankfulness.

October 28-31

In Social Studies we will read "Rainbow Crow" and the children will do a rain dance during music this week. Our Fall Party will be on Thursday. Please bring the items that you signed up for in the hallway for our party. In Science we will read about echolocation from the Exploring Creation book. The children will plant lettuce in our garden and extract pumpkin seeds to take home. In Bible we will color the "Special Prayer" and read Luke 11: 1-4.

October 21-24

The children will continue to work on painting our bats and creating faces for them. We will sing “Bats are Sleeping” and practice moving like bats. In Science we will read “Bats” in Exploring Creation and “Owls” in our Christian Liberty Nature Reader. The children will be planting beets and peas into the garden. Our Field Trip to Country Critters Farm is this Thursday, October 24th. We will leave the school at 9:00. Please be sure to bring a sack lunch and wear tennis shoes. We will plan on returning to school around 12:30.

October 15-17

Our field trip to the Country Critters Farm will be on Thursday, October 24. The admission for children and adults is $7.00. Please turn in your field trip money to Mrs. Hague by Thursday, October 17th. In Science we will learn about feathers as we read “Birds of a Feather”, “Molting”, “Feather Color”, and “Bird Baths” in Exploring Creation. We are planning to label the parts of a feather. We will begin to learn about owls. We will read “An Owl” from our Christian Liberty Nature Reader. We are also planning to plant carrot seeds in the garden. In Bible we will learn about The Fruit of the Spirit: Kindness as we read from Ephesians 4:32. We will read “Tenderhearted in the Bible” and “Tenderhearted at School” from A Child’s Book of Character Building. The children will also work on a little book entitled “Show You Understand”.

October 7-10

In Science we will read “Bird Banter”, “Songs and Calls” and “Claims to Territory” in Exploring Creation. We will read “Bluejays” from Johnny and the Birds. We are planning to pick, press and sketch the Morning Glories that are growing in the garden area. In Music we will play a circle game as we sing “Bluebird, Through My Window”. We will also play a parachute game with butterflies. In Bible we will read “Patience at School” and “Patience at Play” from A Child’s Book of Character Building. In Social Studies we will read about Charles V and the Holy Roman Empire. We will paint a picture of the Emperor.

September 30-October 3

The children will enjoy a presentation by the Dalworthington Gardens Fire Department on Monday. In Science we will read “Migration” and “More Metamorphis” in Exploring Creation. We are also looking forward to sharing our favorite experiences from our field trip to the museum. The children will visit the garden with their clipboards and practice sketching the okra. We will also plant radish seeds into our garden. In Social Studies we will read People Who Help Us: Firefighter and I’m Going To Be A Firefighter. We are planning a field trip to Country Critters Farm on October 24 at 9:00. Admission price is $7.00 for adults and children. We will eat lunch at the farm.
