The children will narrate about the Ancient Greeks and paint a picture of a horse and chariot.&lt;br /&gt;In Language/Writing some of the students will begin learning how to write cursive letters. We will be practicing tracing letter A and B this week. Other students will be practicing writing D’Nealian letters.&lt;br /&gt;In Reading the children have been doing a great job with their leveled readers and sight words. Please be sure to practice reading with your child each week.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will observe a type of aluminum boron silicate that forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks. We will be reading about the igneous rocks and observe a diagram of real igneous rocks that are displayed in our Science Center. We will also practice sorting different colors of rocks.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies the children will be reviewing facts about Egyptian Life by matching Egyptian stickers and placing them in the correct places.&lt;br /&gt;In Music the children will “ice skate” together as they listen to Nocturne No. 8 in D Flat Major by Chopin. &lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will be learning about Joseph and his coat of many colors. The children will be painting their own coat of many colors. We will also be reading and narrating about Moses and doing a color by number picture of baby Moses.&lt;br /&gt;Please be sure to send a warm jacket each day. We will also be decorating wreaths and learning about Christmas wreaths and learning about Christmas in Egypt, Greece, and Rome.&lt;br /&gt;We will listen to The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett on tape and look at all of the beautiful illustrations in the book. The children will be narrating the important parts of the story aloud.&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading about the "Shepherds Visit to Baby Jesus", why the "Wise Men Follow the Star", and when the "Wise Men Give Their Gifts" from the Bible in Pictures by Kenneth Taylor.&lt;br /&gt;We will be having our Christmas Party this Thursday, Dec. 8th at 2:30. Please be sure to bring the items that you signed up for in the hallway. We need enough for 14 children.&lt;br /&gt;Christmas break will begin next week. This is our last week to finish learning about the planets. We will begin learning about stars and constellations after our holiday break.&lt;br /&gt;We will be working on our own owl picture frames to give to their grandparents at our Thanksgiving Feast.&lt;br /&gt;On Thursday our Thanksgiving Feast will begin at 11:15. The children will recite a poem and sing some songs. The children have been doing really well practicing the names of the planets in order during circle time.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will read "Three Men from Heaven" and "God Tests Abraham's Love" from The Bible in Pictures.&lt;br /&gt;We will begin making our cat mummies for Social Studies this week. We will be reading how the Egyptians mummified their cats. The children will narrate the "Cat's Journey" from Spend the Day in Ancient Egypt.&lt;br /&gt;We will be practicing our Thanksgiving songs in music this week. We will be presenting these songs next week at our Thanksgiving Feast.&lt;br /&gt;The children enjoyed observing and narrating about the "Woman with Chrysanthemums". We will continue to work on this painting using watercolors.&lt;br /&gt;Our field trip to see Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer at the Artisan Theatre is on November 29th. Admission is $5 per person. The children played candy corn bowling, pin the nose on the pumpkin, pumpkin toss, and drop the rat. They all enjoyed their prizes they won for playing each game. We will learn about how to use an apostrophe as we do an activity sheet about the Miller's daughter.&lt;br /&gt;We will begin observing and narrating about "A Woman with Chrysanthemums" by Edgar Degas. We will also be picking flowers from the garden and pressing them to put in our Nature Journals.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be decorating their pumpkins that they picked out from the field trip to Greeen's Produce. We will also be sequencing and coloring the Life Cycle of the Pumpkin for our Nature Journal.&lt;br /&gt;Our Fall Festival will be this Saturday, October 29 from 11:00 to 2:00. Our class will help sponsor the Bounce House/Slide and Grab Bag booth. (We hope to see everyone on Saturday).&lt;br /&gt;Our Fall Party is scheduled for Monday, October 31st. The children may dress up in Nursery Rhyme costumes. Please be sure to send a change of clothes for afternoon recess. We will be playing lots of fun games and activities. The children will paint a drawing of King Tutankhamun's body being mummified.&lt;br /&gt;Our Fall Party is Monday, October 31st. The children may dress up as their favorite Nursery Rhyme/storybook character. Please send a change of clothes. Please bring $2.00 by Wednesday to purchase a pumpkin to decorate. We will also observe all of the different kinds of pumpkins and gourds that they are selling.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will read what Noah's Ark was really like.  The children will learn that the Ark was six times longer than it was wide.  We will read how the Ark was the most stable floating platform ever built.  We will finish reading and narrating The Story of Noah's Ark by Tom Dooley.  This week we will read about how Noah sent a raven and a dove out and the dove was the only bird that came back.  We will learn that the dove came back with an olive leaf the second time and how that was a good sign.&lt;br /&gt;We will be talking about how every sentence should begin with a capital letter and that a period should be placed after every complete statement. The children will also practice learning the names of the planets in order.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be planting broccoli seeds in our garden.  They have enjoyed observing the big zuchhini that we have grown from the zucchini plant.  It will continue to bloom and produce more zucchini.&lt;br /&gt;This week we will be learning about the Spearmint plant that we will be planting in the herb garden.  The children will watercolor this herb to put into their Nature Journals.  This herb was used by the Egyptians in Egypt.&lt;br /&gt;We will finish learning about the long "a" silent e and begin learning words that have the long "i" sound as in dive.  We will also talk about Compound Words and how we take two seperate words and combine them into one word. A cartouche is a kind of nameplate that the Ancient Egyptians used for kings, queens, and other people in the kingdom.  We will be reading Fun with Hieroglyphs by Catherine Roehrig.  This rhyming book will teach symbols from A to Z as well as words and what they meant to the Egyptians.&lt;br /&gt;We will begin learning to recite "The Moon" by Robert Louis Stevenson.  A copy of the poem will be sent in their folders to practice at home.&lt;br /&gt;Our Field Trip to River Legacy Science Center will be next Monday, September 26th.  We will meet at the school at 8:50 and depart at 9:00.  We will eat our lunches at the school when we get back from the field trip. We will be making our own phases of the moon wheels to take home.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will begin learning about the composor Frederic Chopin. The children will be moving fast and slow scarves to Chopin's "Nocturne in F, Op. 15".&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will begin reading about "The First Nomads" and "The First Nomads Become Farmers" from The Story of the World. The children will learn that the best places for nomads to live were in the area called the Fertile Crescent. The children will take turns wearing the organ apron and as we learn the different names.&lt;br /&gt;The children picked pea pods from the garden and got their picture taken for their Nature Journals. We will continue to read and learn the parts of the brain. This week we will be reading and narrating about our “Bones” from the Christian Liberty Nature Reader. The children will be cutting and pasting the names of the bones next to the different parts of the skeleton.&lt;br /&gt;We will read about Jesus clearing the temple from John 2:12. The children will be narrating why they think Jesus made the sellers leave the temple and making their own book to take home.&lt;br /&gt;“The Wizard of Oz” play will be held at Trinity Christian Church this Thursday in Fort Worth. The play will begin at 7:00. There is a $5 admission fee per person at the door. Children that will be performing in the production need to be at the church dressed in costume for practice by 5:30. &lt;br /&gt;We have snack time in the afternoon. Please be sure to send your child a healthy snack each day. We will read about how ranchers brand their cows to show ownership of their livestock. We will be making western necklaces to wear on Texas Field Day. The boys will string red, yellow, and blue beads with a cowboy boot, cowboy hat, and a badge. The girls will bead purple, pink, and white beads as well as a white horse, cowgirl hat, and cowgirl boot.&lt;br /&gt;Texas Field Day will be this Thursday, April 28 at 12:00. We will cook and eat hot dogs, beans, and cornbread before going to the different Texas themed stations around the playground area. The children will be learning about the process of recycling glass. They will also make their own organic garbage book.&lt;br /&gt;The children We will be learning about the bluebonnet and reading and narrating The Legend of the Bluebonnet. We will be observing the bluebonnet and sketching it for their Nature Journals. We will also be planting the bluebonnets in the garden.&lt;br /&gt;Our field trip to Veteran’s Park is this Wednesday, April 13. We will be leaving at 9:30. Please return the permission form by Tuesday. Be sure to let us know whether you will be attending and how many children you can transport to the park. We will be eating lunch at the park. Please send a lunch and a water bottle to take on the field trip.&lt;br /&gt;We will be having our Easter Egg Hunt &amp;amp; Party next Wednesday, April 20. We will leave at 9:30. The children will be going on an exploration through nature trails. We will play on the playground and eat lunch at the picnic tables. Please send a sack lunch and a water bottle. The children need to wear tennis shoes since we will be walking on the trails. In Science we will be reading about the aluminum recycling process. The children will learn where we can find pollution such as in the street, air, water, and by the road. In dictation we will be reading and copying from Matthew 5:14. “You are the light of the world”. The Texas Field Day has been changed to Thursday, April 28th. More information will be coming soon. We're planning lots of fun for the summer. In Bible the children will be making their own book about Jesus choosing his disciples. We will read the story from Luke 5:1 and talk about who the disciples were in the Bible. In Science we will be reading about the process of recycling paper and sorting the correct items that belong in the paper category. The children will be painting "The Musical Fisherman". We will read the fable and talk about how the moral of the story is that some people never do the predictable thing. Every child is required to wear tennis shoes or sandals to school each day. Please do not wear flip-flops to school. We will talk about how everyone can recycle at home or bring things to recycle at school. In Bible we will be copying Psalm 46:10 “Be Still and know that I am God”. The children will be cutting and pasting the sentence and coloring the illustration to go along with the scripture. In Math some of the students will begin working on multiplying numbers by 2’s (Ex. 2x3, 2x4). Please be practicing these at home. Others will continue working on adding, subtracting, and telling time. In Language some of the students will be reviewing contractions. Other students will be working on their Primary Phonics Workbooks. In Spelling some of the children will be reviewing the “oi” and “oy” sound. We will continue to practice putting together the parts of the flower on the felt board and working on the parts of the flower Montessori puzzle.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be working on sewing 4-hole buttons using yarn.  They will practice sewing the button onto squares made of burlap.&lt;br /&gt;Open House is this Saturday, March 12 at 2:45. The children will put the parts of the flower together using the felt pieces on the felt board.  The children will also practice using the Montessori Nomenclature Cards with the parts of the flower puzzle.  We will be reading about our Sense of Touch.  Each child may bring a texture to share during circle time.  They may choose to bring 1 item that is smooth, rough, hard, or soft etc..&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;In Math some of the students will begin learning multiplication. Some of the children are working on learnign their numbers as well as adding and subtracting numbers. The children will be narrating about what the moral of the story might be and how it teaches us to be satisfied with what we have and be thankful for what God gives us.  The children will also paint the illustration to go along with the Aesop Fable.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be talking about our sense of taste. Each child may bring a food to share with the classs. You may bring food to share with the class. You may bring something sweet, sour, or bitter to share during snack time on Thursday.  We will be digging in the garden this week and the children will be taking turns planting collard seeds and peas into the garden.&lt;br /&gt; In Math some of the students learned how to measure all the sides of different shapes to find the perimeter.  We are also learning about vertical and horizontal lines.  Others are practicing recognizing numbers and adding and subtracting numbers. The party was a blast! Thanks to all the parents who helped with our party.  The kids enjoyed receiving their Valograms.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the children are working on reading Book 4 of the Primary Phonics Readers.  They have also been working on coding short and long vowels within a sentence related to the story.&lt;br /&gt;In Dictation we will be reading and writing a verse from the Bible about love from John 4:19 "We love because he first loved us".&lt;br /&gt;School will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21.  Please be sure to send a jacket if needed for morning playground at 10:30.  It is often still cool at that time even on warmer days.&lt;br /&gt;Please send your zip-lock bag with something to smell and share during circle time by this Thursday. We learned where China is located on the map.  We will learn that it is the Year of the Rabbit.  Each students will be coloring the different animals on the Chinese Zodiac Calendar as well as matching the stickers to the correct animal. &lt;br /&gt;The children will be decorating Chinese dragons to give to thier grandparents on Thursday.  We will also be decorating Chinese hats and necklaces to wearat our Chinese New Year Celebration/Feast. We willl be trying different kinds of Chinese Food on Thursday.  Your child may also bring a lunchbox that day. Please be sure to bring the items that your child signed up for in the hallway. Bring enough for 15 kids and adults.&lt;br /&gt;Grandparents Day is this Thursday, Jan. 27th.  Dr. Flint will be speaking at 10:00.  We will be having our Chinese Celebration/Feast from 10:30 to 11:00. We will be having a Chinese Feast for Grandparents Day.  There will be a sign-up sheet in the hall with items for the feast. The children will paint pictures and add the last sequence of the event. Others will be reviewing the soft and hard "g" sound. Ex) gem, jar. The students will practice sorting each season with the correct type of clothing. Ex) Winter-wear gloves, hat, scarf. Others students will be reviewing short i.  We will also learn the “ir” sound and review adding -ies,-es, and -s to words to make them plural.Ex) babies, churches, dolls.&lt;br /&gt;Please take 5-10 minutes each evening to go over the Dolch flashcards/list with your child. The children loved decorating pumpkins, fishing for treasure, and eating special treats.  They also enjoyed sliding and bouncing in the bounce house.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be reading The Gift of the Sacred Dog.  The story is about how the Plains tribes were given the gift of horses to help them move faster and farther so the tribe could find buffalo. The children will also be learning about the geography of the plains and make their own book to take home.&lt;br /&gt;The children have been learning about seeds and how they travel.  We have been collecting seeds from the flowers in the garden.  Each child will also be labeling the different parts of a seed.  On Thursday we will be having show and tell with different kinds of seeds. The children may bring one seed to share with the class such as seeds that come from fruits, vegetables, plants, etc...&lt;br /&gt; In Music we will begin to learn and practice Thanksgiving songs. We will be eating an early lunch and leaving at 11:30. Please be sure to wear tennis shoes instead of sandals since we will be going on a nature hike.&lt;br /&gt;If you have not turned in your $14.00 for the field trip to River Legacy Science Center please turn it in by Wednesday. If you are writing a check make it out to Mrs. Hague since we have to pay cash when we get to the Science Center.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be reading about Autumn and the different parts of a plant. We will be drawing and painting the different kinds of pumpkins and gourds for our Nature Journals as well as making patterns. In Social Studies we will be reading about what it is like to be a Vet. We will talk about the different colors, shapes, and sizes they observed from the painting.  Students will try to paint the picture of the Merigold by the observations they made from the picture of  the painting.&lt;br /&gt;In Math some of the students will be practicing the different names of coins as well as counting coins by twos.  Some of the students will be working on counting numbers and telling time on a clock. &lt;br /&gt;We will be reading what is like to work as a nurse. The children will be coloring and labeling different tools that a nurse or doctor may use with patients.  We have also read what a nurse has to get ready each day before patients arrive for their appointments.  The children will be playing a matching game of all the things that you might see a doctor’s office.  We will also be talking about the different things that you could see at a hospital.&lt;br /&gt;Please be sure to send a snack each day for snack time. The children need to place their snack in the basket by the door each day.  Each child needs to be sure to bring their folder so they can  carry work home at the end of each day.&lt;br /&gt;Please turn in the permission slip for the River Legacy Field trip by this Thursday along with the admission fee ($12 per child). This week we will color and read about Day 5.  We will also draw pictures to go along with the Scripture the student’s have been copying.&lt;br /&gt;The students will choose one favorite food to draw that they might cook if they became a chef.  This week we will be reading about what it is like to be a Television Reporter. &lt;br /&gt;In Science the children enjoyed labeling and coloring the parts of a tree. This week each student will be a special tree on the playground and do a “bark rubbing”.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be doing the “Leaf Dance” to Mozart’s “Horn Concerto No. 2 in E Flat Major”.  We will also learn the motions to “Leaves are Falling”.&lt;br /&gt;Open House is this Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3:00 p.m.  Please let me know if you will be attending. &lt;br /&gt;We will be going on a Field Trip to River Legacy Science Center on Thursday, October 14.  There will be hands on nature centers and a guided hike.  The cost is $12 per child (adults are free).  We will eat an early lunch at school and leave at 11:30. The tour starts at 12:00. We will also practice singing Days 1-4 of the “Creation” song.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be planting broccoli and beets in to our class garden this week. We will also be labeling the different parts of a tree.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be learning about the Compass Rose. The children will be labeling North, South, East and West on the Compass.&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading about what it is like to be a chef. We will also be learning the different kinds of chefs such as Pastry Chefs, Sous Chefs, and Executive Chefs.&lt;br /&gt;Please remember to bring your folder to school each day. We will be learning 1 dolch word each week. Please be sure to practice the flashcards at home each evening with your child.&lt;br /&gt;This Thursday, September 23 is our school fundraiser at Barnes and Noble bookstore by the Park’s Mall. The children have been working very hard on creating their own drawings. We will also be reading about how we get our cloth and how we get our clothing.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be collecting leaves since it was too rainy to collect them last week.  We will also be learning the names of different kind of leaves and coloring each leaf with our map pencils.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be planting Lettuce Seeds in the garden. The students will be making their own In the Beginning book. &lt;br /&gt;In Phonics some of the students will be learning and reviewing words with long “a” silent e.  They will be practicing word families “ack” and “ake”. &lt;br /&gt;Other students will be reading and reviewing short “a” words. We will also plant lavender in the Butterfly Garden.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be using instruments to the songs "New River Train" and "Working on the Railroad".  We will also play "Shaking Hands" with the parachute.&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading about the San Jacinto Monument, which marks the site of the final battle of the Texas Revolution.  We will learn about how the city of Austin is named in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the father of Texas.  The students will also learn that the State Vegetable is the sweet onion and the State Pepper is the jalapeno.&lt;br /&gt;In Math some of the students will be tracing and counting the number 18. This week we will begin learning the third stanza.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be reading Our Texas while learning about the Lone Star State's history and sites of the Texas Revolution.  We will also learn that the State Dish is Texas Chili.&lt;br /&gt;The children have enjoyed learning about air and water.  We will begin to learn about things that move on land such as cars, trucks, trains, bikes etc.  This week we will read about different kinds of motor sports cars.  We will als  begin learning about the sense of taste.  The children will be sorting foods that are sweet and sour using a Venn Diagram.&lt;br /&gt;In Math some of the students will be working on writing and counting numbers 16 and 17.  Other students will be working on geometric shapes and using greater than, less than, and equal signs.&lt;br /&gt;In Music the children will use instruments to the song "The Red Car".  In Creative Movement we will learn new movements with the parachute. They will decorate a crown and torch to wear.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will continue learning about the different kinds of boats. We will do several floating activities and the children will make their own book about the observations. This week we will water the Dill seeds that we planted into pots and observe them as they begin to sprout. They will also make sketches of the Sage and the Peppermint, and compare the sizes of the leaves.&lt;br /&gt;In Creative Movement/Music the children will learn how to grip a parachute using the thumbs-up and thumbs-down positions. They will practice sitting, kneeling, and standing positions and learn how to execute the wave, jerk, and flip-flop movements. We will read about helicopters and gliders.  We will also learn about the Wright brothers.&lt;br /&gt;Most of the children have learned to recite the first stanz of "Where Go The Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson.  We will begin  learning the second stanza  of the poem.  Please be practicing this poem at home.  A copy of the poem was sent home last week.&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading about how God sends Abraham to a New Land.  We will read the story in circle and the children will create their own book.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be pretending to ride in an airplane and practice rhythms with instruments to "Riding in an Airplane" by Raffi.&lt;br /&gt;In Creative Movement the children will pretend to glide like an airplane to "Skyward" by Greg and Steve. This week we will begin reading about air and learn who invented the hot air balloon.  We will coninue to learn about our Five Senses.  This week we will do a hearing activity using rubber bands.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be reading about the life of Abraham Lincoln.  We will learn about his life as a little boy and as the President. &lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be reviewing counting by tens with dimes.  We will also practice counting by fives using nickels.  Other students will be practicing how to count by twos using pennies.&lt;br /&gt;In Phonics some of the students will be learning about letter "v". We will also be reading Way Far Away on a Wild Safari.&lt;br /&gt;In Math some of the children have been working on how to write word problems using subtraction.  Other students have been practicing how to write numbers.&lt;br /&gt;We will be learningin the Dime song this week.  The students have enjoyed learning the Quarter and Penny song.  Please continue to practice these at home.&lt;br /&gt;We will be having our Easter hunt on Thursday at 2:30.  We will be making baskets to use for the egg on hunt. We will use our sense of sight to see if there are any strawberries to ready to pick.  The students enjoyed drawing the strawberry plant for their Nature journals. &lt;br /&gt;In Sceince we will be learning about the Savannah Habitat.  We will read a book called Memily, which is about a baby giraffe.  We will also review the parts of a flower and read Stems and Roots and Leaves. &lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will finish painting our United States Flags.  We will also finish reading and narrating about Betsy Ross.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be practicing writing "y" in D' Nealian.  The children will also sort objects that begin with the letter "y" and "w".  We will also be reviewing and writing short vowel words in our Phonics/Rules Journal.  other students will be cutting and pasting nouns on paper and writing sentences using adjectives and verbs.  We will also begin learning about synonyms.&lt;br /&gt;We are planning a Field Trip to Veteran's Park for a nature walk next Tuesday, March 30 at 9:30. They will paint their own Anaconda.  All of the animals and puzzle pieces they have been working on will be put together into a Rainforest pocket book. &lt;br /&gt;We will be planting strawberries in the garden and creating texture collages to display in the hall.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be reading about how Betsy Ross sewed the flag of the United States.  We'll be comparing the Texas flag to the United States flag.  We will read F is for Flag and talk about how the United States flag has 13 stripes and 50 stars.  The children will learn a song called, "Fifty Stars Are On Our Flag".&lt;br /&gt;The children will be learning the different coin songs to help them remember the names of the coins.  We will be practicing the Quarter song this week.  A song sheet witht the words will be sent home this week.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be working on ending consonants.  They will be reviewing the vowel digraphs "ai" and "ay". We sampled Hello Panda cookies, Chinese noodles, Chinese fruit lollipops, White bean pastries, apples and mandarin oranges.  They also had a wonderful time parading down the hall for the other classrooms using instruments and walking under the Chinese Dragon.&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading the life of George Washingon.  The children will be making their own George Washington.  We will also read the Quarter book and talk about how George Washington is on the quarter.  Students will be writing what they would do if they were the new President.  They will also draw what their version of the flag would look like if they were President and explain it to the class.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be reading about the Understory Layer of the Rainforest.  We will leanr about the Jaguar and its habits.  The children will be drawing their own jaguar and coloring the Understory layer with their colored pencils.&lt;br /&gt;In Math some of the students will be counting by ones, tens, and hundreds.  They will match or write the two-digit number.  Other students will be subtracting with word problems. The students will be making the Emergent and Canopy Layer puzzle pieces of the rainforest.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies the children have been practicing the Chinese song called "Zhao Pengyou" which means Looking for a Friend.  Mrs. Worman (Laura's mother) who lived and taught in China for 12 years will play a game with students to go along with the song. &lt;br /&gt;This week we will read Against the Odds, a story about Pandas. We will be painting and decorating dragons and having a parade with a large dragon down the hall.  We'll sample traditional food and play with little slide drums at our celebration on Thursday.&lt;br /&gt;In Phonics we will be practicing words that begin with the letter "c".  We will read Cathy Cook. Some of the students will be reviewing verbs and using am, are, is, has, have, does, and do.  They will also begin learning what an adjective is.&lt;br /&gt;We will be learning and listening to the words for the Y-E-L-L-O-W and W-H-I-T-E songs on the CD.  Students will make their own songbooks to practice at home.&lt;br /&gt;Please be sure to bring a heavy jacket for playground each day since the weather has been chilly. The children had fun learning about the Emergent Layer of the Rainforest and painting their favorite animal.  This week we will learn about the animals that live in the Canopy Layer of the Rainforest.  We will read about a Sloth and how it hangs from the trees.&lt;br /&gt;In Art the children will be making their own Valentine soaps and Door Knob Hangers to take home. &lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will read about Friends.  We will also make Valentines Cards for our friends.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be practicing how to write a lowercase"d" this week.  We will also practice words that begin and end with the letter "d".  Other students will be reviewing plural -s and -es.  They will learn how to change "y" to "i" and add -es such as "candies".  We will also learn when to add -ed and -ing.&lt;br /&gt;Our Valentine Party will be this Thursday, Feb. 11.  The children will be decorating their own valentines cards on party day.  We will also play several games and sing songs such as A-Tisket, A-Tasket and "The More We Get Together".&lt;br /&gt;Please send Valentines to exchange at our party on Thursday. We will also learn the B-L-A-C-K song and make our own songbook to take home.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will begin to read and learn about the Rainforest Habitat. we will be making our own parrots and talking about the different animals that live in the rainforest. The children will also be painting their favorite animal in the rainforest in the easel.&lt;br /&gt;Our letter of the week is "h". Some of the students will be tracing and writing lowercase "h" in D'Nealian. Other students will be working on matching pictures that end with "sw", "sp" and "sk".  They will be learning about plural nouns and review the sound for long "i".&lt;br /&gt;Please bring 3 items with texture by Wednesday if you have not already brought them to school. Someof the students have shared their items in circle and will be gluing them on the poster as a class on Thursday.&lt;br /&gt;The children really enjoyed Dr. Flint's visits our class last week. We will use the texture dominoes in science center. we will begin making a Japanese Shoji Screen with a Polar motif.&lt;br /&gt;We will be making a texture collage this Thursday. Please bring 3 items with texture to share with the class by Thursday. We will be gluing the items on the poster.&lt;br /&gt;We are continuing to paint the animals that live in the Texas State Parks. The children will be playing a matching game in Science Center that shows all of the Western Animals such as the coyote.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will learn the "Yellow Rose of Texas" with an interactive CD. The Kindergarten students will be painting their own R-E-D songbook. A sheet with the tune of the song and words will be sent to sing at home.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be tracing and writing lowercase "j". We will be reviewing ending sounds in class this week. Other students will be learning verbs. In Nature Study we will be sketching an Orchid and painting the different mammals that live in Texas State Parks such as the Jackrabbit, Bobcat and Raccoon.&lt;br /&gt;We will be making Texas Flags and Bluebonnets for our Texas Unit. We will also make our own cactus. We will read about how the Armidillo is our State Small Mammal and the Mexican Bat is our State Flying Mammal.&lt;br /&gt;In Math the Kindergarten students will be practicing how to trace the number "7" and write the word seven. Please be practicing how to write the number 1-7 at home. Some of the students will be measuring units using paper clips. Other students will learn how to measure by inches and centimeters.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be learning about American Folk Songs, "Home on the Range" and "Sweet Betsy From Pike". This week we will be learning about different mammals that live in Texas. We will also learn that the State Mammal is the Texas Longhorn.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be practicing following directions with beanbags as we listen to "Sh-Boom" and "Splish Splash".&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be reading and coloring the different kinds of penguins such as the King, Emperor, Rockhopper, Chinstrap and Adellie.&lt;br /&gt;In Nature Study we will be observing and sketching a Bromeliad for our Nature Journals.&lt;br /&gt;Students will be practicing words that begin with the letter "s". They will also be cutting and pasting pictures that begin with the letter "s". Some of the students will be learning the definition of a pronoun. We will practice using she, he, we, us, them and they.&lt;br /&gt;We are planning a field trip to Will Roger's Coliseum on Tuesday, April 13th for a performance of Han's Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid". We will be reading the Penny book and Nickel book.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be doing creative movement with beanbags to "The Peppermint Twist" and "Rock Around The Clock".&lt;br /&gt;The children will be working on painting "The Olive Trees" by Van Gogh. We will observe the painting and see what colors the trees are in the picture and if they all look the same. We will also narrate about the background that is behind the olive trees.&lt;br /&gt;In Phonics some of the students will be starting their Explode the Code Book B. We will be tracing the letter "p" and learning words that begin with the letter "p". We will also be reviewing letter "r".&lt;br /&gt;Other students will be learning that a noun is a person, place, and thing. They will write each noun in the correct category.&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading about the Polar Habitat. The children will learn different kinds of polar animals in Science Center by playing a matching game. This week we will learn about penguins and polar bears. We will learn that a penguin is a type of bird but can't fly. The children will paint a polar habitat and learn what penguins eat. We will read about how an iceberg is a solid and water is a liquid. We will talk about how the children in Mexico celebrate Christmas on January 6 and put their shoes out for the Wise Men to fill with toys.  We will do "The Mexican Hat Dance" in music.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will read Luke 2:1-20 and the children will color their own book, God Sent Us a Savior.  We will listen and sing with a CD of "The Birthday of a King".  We will also read "Wise Men Give Their Gifts" from The New Bible in Pictures.  Each child will create their own Nativity Scene with stickers.&lt;br /&gt;Students will be making their own Candy Cane and Jingle Bell Snowman ornaments.  We will decorate Christmas trees with ornament stickers and paint a Christmas tree on a bag to take home at the party.  The children will also decorate Christmas cards with stickers to take home.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will continue working on our Zoo Cats book.  We will sketch poinsettias for our Nature Journal.  We will also read The Legend of the Poinsettia.&lt;br /&gt;Our Christmas party will be on Thursday after lunch.  Please bring 1 wrapped book to exchange at the party.  We still need shirts, pants, toys and non-perishable food for the children from Mission Arlington.  We also need shoes for the 6 year old boy, Alijah.  There is a sign up sheet in the hall with a list of sizes for each child.  Please bring these items to put in the buckets by Wednesday. We will also read about how the angels tell about Jesus' birth. We will also read about the shepherds visit to see baby Jesus.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be learning the different traditions of Christmas in Germany. We will watercolor and decorate a gingerbread house and learn about the advent calendar. Students will make their own gingerbread man puppet. We will read about how the people in Germany decorate their Christmas tree with apples, nuts, candy and glass ornaments.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be learning about the different animals that live in the zoo. The children will color their own Zoo Cats book about lions, cheetahs, leopards, and jaguars.&lt;br /&gt;We are collecting Christmas toys, clothes and non-perishable food items for a family that we have volunteered to help from Mission Arlington. The information about the children is posted in the hallway. Please drop off any items to Mrs. Hague by next Wednesday. We will also play Indian Jump to the Beat and the Indian Hoop Game.  The children are also continuing to practice the Thanksgiving songs that they will be performing at the feast.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be reading about the Pilgrims sailing on the Mayflower.  We will read what they ate and how they slept on the ship.  The children will be making their own placemats to eat on for the feast.  We will read a collection of poems from It's Thanksgiving and listen to a book and tape: Thanksgiving Mice.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be learning words that begin with the letter "t" and tracing and writing the letter "t".  Some of the students will be reviewing sounds "ar", "er", "ir" and "ur".  They will also be working on blends in thier Explode the Code Workbook. &lt;br /&gt;Please be reviewing and practicing the letter names and sounds at home every evening as well as the books or word lists that are being sent home each week.&lt;br /&gt;Our Thanksgiving Feast will be this Thursday at 11:15. Other students will be learning words that end with -ing, -s, and -es.  Some of the students will be reading Ben Bug and others will be reading The Fog and Peg the Hen.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will be finishing our Dreamcatchers.  The children will be putting beads and feathers on them.  We will be reading the Totem Pole and making our own totem poles.  We will also play an Indian sign language game and read about the Pilgrims.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will continue learning about the Desert Habitat.  We will read about snakes.  The children will be planting collards and spinach seeds in the garden.  They will also be sketching flowers that they see in the garden.   We will be working on the Day 7 Creation page and talking about how we need to be thankful for everything that God has given us.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be practicing "My Work Is Never Done" and "The Pilgrims Come to America".  We will also be practicing the other songs the children will present at the Thanksgiving Feast.&lt;br /&gt;Please be sure to turn in your Scholastic book order by this Thursday. We will be leaving the school at 8:30. The tour begins at 9:30.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be learning the "Land of the Silver" and "Over the River and Through the Woods".&lt;br /&gt;We will be reading The Brave Little Tailor and narrating the story as a group. The children will learn the job of a tailor as they make their own book.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be learning abou the Desert Habitat. The children will learn about the Elf Owl, Kangaroo Rat and the Zebra-Tailed Lizard.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will learn about Indians. We will also practice our Day 1-7 song.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be learning the different kinds of reptiles. We will talk about the turtle life cycle and read facts about the iguana, snake, alligator and lizard.&lt;br /&gt;In nature study we will collect different sizes of acorns. We will talk about the Oak tree that is growing from the acorn we planted last year. We will plant broccoli and and swiss chard in the garden.&lt;br /&gt;We will be starting a new Unit on Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes. This week we will be reading Snow White and narrating the story. They all took turns feeding the tortoise lettuce.  We also observed the guinea pigs and hermit crab.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be moving like the wind to Mozart's Symphony in G major.  We will also use hula hoops in creative movement with music by Hap Palmer and Raffi.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will watercolor The Beginning book and read about Day 4.  We will also read from the Beginner's Bible.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the children will be reading short "o" words from Mox's Shop as well as tracing and writing lowercase "e" and "u".  Other Students will be reading The Tin Man while reviewing short "i".  They will also begin learning consonant blends bl, cl, fl, and gl in their Explode the Code workbook. &lt;br /&gt;In Math some of the students will be ordering things from smallest to largest using numbers.  Other students will be ordering things from shortest to tallest. We will learn that a whale is a mammal and coloor the lifecycle of the salmon.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will read"Johnny and the Wolf" from the Johnny Appleseed book.&lt;br /&gt;We will read The Fisherman and His Wife and make a magic fish.  Some of the students will be learning short vowel sounds while others will be learning "ie" as in tie and "igh" as in high.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be comparing objects and pictures that are the same or different while others will be learning the concept of more than and less than.  We will be going to Mainstay Farms on Thursday, October 29.  This will be our Fall Party.  Students will need to wear a Flint Academy shirt.   Jennifer will be sending an order in on Wednesday. We will learn that a crab, shrimp, and lobster are called Arthropods. We will also learn that starfish, urchins, and sand dollars are all Echnoderms.  The children will watercolor a jellyfish and begin working on their own ocean nomenclature cards. We will read and narrate about sea stars and jellyfish in our Nature Readers. &lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies we will read "The Appleseed Man" from the Johnny Applessed book.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the Students will be finding things that are the same or things that are different.  Others will use manipulatives to learn the concept of "on" and "off".  We will also review top, middle, and bottom.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be learning words that start with the short "i" sound.  They will read words that end with "ick" and "ig".  Other students will learn and compare words that are spelled with "ea" and "ee".&lt;br /&gt;Our field trip is this Thursday, Sept. 24. In Science Center the children will be sorting animal manipulatives into these categories.   We will be reading about Land Invertebrates such as Insects.  We will also be learning about Mammals.&lt;br /&gt;In Math we will be doing activities using the words top, middle and bottom. Some students will be sorting things that go "up" and "down" or "over" and "under" while others will be sorting things from smallest to largest.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will introduce the harp to the children as they learn to play the basic scale.  We will also be alternating bilateral movements as we learn the song "Up Went the Spider."&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will be using watercolors to paint the story about the habit of attention.  We will also read about what God created on Day One in the Bible and learn Creation songs.&lt;br /&gt;Some of the students will be practicing word families such as "at" and "an" or "op" and "og" while others work on tracing and writing their lowercase letters "a" and "o".  The students who have mastered the short vowel sounds will be learning the "ai" and "ay" words.&lt;br /&gt;Please send a snack for snack time each morning.  Be sure to label the bag with the students name so we will know whom it belongs to.  Encourage your child to form the habit of placing their snack item in the brown basket by the door each morning.&lt;br /&gt;Our field trip to the River Legacy Science Center is on Thursday, September 24.  Please send $10.00 by this Thursday for your child to attend.  There will be a Permission form in the hall for parents to sign. In Math some students will be learning the concept of "inside" and "outside", and others will be learning how to sort different kinds of manipulatives.&lt;br /&gt;Phonemic Awareness: Some of the students will be reviewing words with the short "a" sound while others will be working on  long "a" words.&lt;br /&gt;Science and Social Studies: We will be learning about different kinds and colors of apples this month.  We will be reading the first story called "Alone in the Woods" from Johnny Appleseed. The students will make their own Johnny Appleseed puppet and create a book called All About Apples.&lt;br /&gt;This week we will talk about Living and Nonliving things and play and Bingo game.  We will also color our own Living and Nonliving Montessori nomenclature cards.&lt;br /&gt;Upcoming Events:  We are planning a field trip to River Legacy Living Science Center on Thursday, September 24 at 12:00.  There will be centers to explore and a guided hike.  The cost is $10 per child.  Please let me know if you would like to attend.  There will be a sign up sheet posted in the hall.&lt;br /&gt;Classroom Reminders:  Please send an individual snack for snack time each day. Be sure to mark it with your child's name and place it in the collection basket just inside the classroom door.  They may also bring a water bottle to keep in the classroom.  Students need to bring a backpack to school each day as well as a change of clothes in case of a spill or accident.  A note will be sent out about our daily hot lunches that will be offered starting next week. We are almost finished with our journals. Please be reviewing words such as fox, box, mix, fix, six, and wax.&lt;br /&gt;In Nature Study/Gardening we observed our tomato plants. We will also be planting several kinds of flowers in our Perennial Garden. The children will be watching the birds eat out of the bird feeders we put up by our Atrium.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will be talking about self-control this week. We will practice keeping our hands to ourselves and not on our peers. We will also talk about how it is using self-control when you choose to make a good choice.&lt;br /&gt;Field Day is Tuesday, May 26 at Veteran’s Park. Parents are encouraged to attend. Please bring your lawn chairs to set up at our group’s spot (there will be a blanket for the kids). A large umbrella is also a good idea in case of rain. There will be no school that day. We will meet at the park at 9:30. If you cannot attend please make arrangements with Mrs. Hague by this Thursday.&lt;br /&gt;Our End of Year Party will be on May 21 at Putt Putt Golf. There will be as sign-up sheet in the hall. Please let us know if you will be able to go with us. Bring $6 by Wednesday for golf, pizza, and tokens. There will be no school Memorial Day (Monday, May 25). Our last day of school is Thursday, May 28. Summer School is June 15 thru July 23. We are almost finished with our last Explode the Code workbook.  The children have done such an awesome job on all 3 books.  Last week we finished practicing the Tom and Jip story.  We will&lt;br /&gt;be starting a new story called Ted and Kip.&lt;br /&gt;In Math we will be reviewing what one-half means.  We will also practice counting numbers up to 100. &lt;br /&gt;We will learn about our sense of Taste this week.  I have attached a Ziploc bag to return with something sweet, salty, bitter, or sour to taste and share with the other children (11 children).  Please send it for our tasting party on Thursday. &lt;br /&gt;The children are doing a great job learning the poem about “The Stork”.  A new poem will be sent home on Thursday about “ The Woodpecker” to practice over the weekend.&lt;br /&gt;In Music we will pretend to be Storks as we move to Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major. &lt;br /&gt;We will be making a team shirt for field day next week. They are doing a great job in their Explode the Code Book C. This week we will be learning words that start with the letter “z”. The children will be making the letter “z” out of Zoodles. Students will be bringing home their Tom and Jip book this week. Please practice the underlined words with your child each night.&lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be making our own bird feeders. We will also be decorating a class bird feeder for the Auction at the Golf Tournament. In Nature Study we will be reading and narrating Farewells and Welcomes: The Chickadee from the Burgess Bird Book. We will also paint “The Chickadee” for our Nature Journals.&lt;br /&gt;We will be learning about California, Idaho, and Utah this week. Last week the students had fun putting a crab and light house on their U.S map while learning about Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.&lt;br /&gt;The children enjoyed doing rocking motions with a partner as they sang “Mama’s Lap” last week. This week we will continue practicing this song. We will also review the social story about “Meeting Someone New”.&lt;br /&gt;We will begin learning the poem “The Stork” by Douglas Florian. Each student will bring a copy of the poem to practice at home.&lt;br /&gt;The Golf Tournament and dinner is next Monday, May 11. We will have a movie, pizza, and activities for the children available at the Shady Valley Country Club, and Mrs. Camp and I will be there to supervise. Pizza and snacks are $5. We learned how astronauts eat,dress, and even go to the bathroom in space.  There were lots of hands-on materials to explore, and on the second floor we were able to pretend to cook food over a campfire, visit a teepee, and ride a horse like real cowboys and cowgirls.&lt;br /&gt;In Phonics we will be learning words that begin with the letter “v”.  We will also be finger painting letter “v” on paper.  Please be reviewing letter sounds with your child at home. &lt;br /&gt;In Science we will be doing some texture rubbings. Last week the children enjoyed rubbing different kinds of leaves. &lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will continue to learn about The Fruit of the Spirit, “Faithfulness.”  We will have a puppet show and learn about how Abraham was faithful to God.  We will read Abraham is God’s Friend, and God Gives Abraham the Best in The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes.  &lt;br /&gt;In Music we will be using sign language to the song, “Mama’s Lap.” This song will also help with sequencing. This week we will be reading about Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Kansas, and North Dakota. We will be learning about the Western Meadowlark and the Baltimore Oriole birds. Last week the students did an excellent job observing and drawing a flowering Impatien. &lt;br /&gt;In gardening we will be planting zucchini and tomatoes. We are also planning to collect leaves and make leaf rubbings to place in the hall. &lt;br /&gt;In phonics we will be practicing how to write the lowercase “y”. We will also write words that start with the letter “y” in our picture/journals.  The children did a great job learning how to write sentences in their Primary Phonics workbooks. This week we will continue to practice writing sentences.  &lt;br /&gt;Students are working hard at learning how to count dimes and nickels. We will continue to practice this in class.  We will also be working on recognizing numbers up to 100. Please be practicing this at home.  The children are working hard at learning how to do subtraction. We will be learning how to write the minus and equal signs in our workbooks.&lt;br /&gt;In Art/Music we will continue to practice the “Sunflower” song. We will be coloring the Black-Eyed Susan flower. We will also be dancing to classical music with the colored scarves.      &lt;br /&gt;Our field trip to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is this Thursday. We will visit the Living in Space Exhibit, which is located on the first floor of the Cowgirl Museum. We will eat lunch at school as usual and leave for the Museum at 10:30.  The cost for adults and children is $3.00.  This is a special group price, so please let us know if you plan to attend.  Please turn in your money to me by Wednesday. We will also read several stories by Beatrix Potter.&lt;br /&gt;In Math we will be using subtraction on number lines and reviewing how to count by 5's and 10’s. Please be practicing these concepts at home. &lt;br /&gt;We will be planting different flowers and plants in our atrium and drawing them during Nature Study. We will continue exploring our Sense of Touch using different textures of food and different kinds of objects.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible we will practice Kindness as we learn about our Fruits of the Spirit. We will read about the kindness of Boaz to Ruth and have a Puppet Show called “The Lost Money.”&lt;br /&gt;Remember, our class will meet at Dalworthington Gardens Park on Tuesday, April 7 to feed the ducks.  Please meet us there immediately after school. &lt;br /&gt;We are planning a field trip to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History on Thursday, April 23 to visit the interactive Space exhibit for children located in the Cowgirl Museum. An information sheet is attached.&lt;br /&gt; Our Easter party will be this Thursday, April 9.  We will wear our Easter bonnets and have an Easter tea party.  Please send an Easter basket and 12 filled plastic eggs(with wrapped candy or prizes), and seal them with tape. We will also be practicing how to write numbers by fives. &lt;br /&gt;This week we will be reading about New Mexico.  The children will be adding it to their maps. We will play listening games and use the sound cylinders in Science Center. The children will be reading about Saturn. &lt;br /&gt;In Nature Study, the children will be learning about the American Robin.  We will be reading about the lifecycle from egg to robin.  We will also be narrating about the Audubon Robin Painting.  Each child will paint their own Audubon painting of the American Robin.&lt;br /&gt;In Math, we will be counting nickels and dimes.  We will also practice writing our days of the week in order.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be starting Explode the Code:  Book C. This week we are learning words that begin and end with the letter “c”.  We are also reviewing words that have the short and long “u” sound.&lt;br /&gt;We will be pretending to walk in space with music to “Adventure in Space”.  The kids will also dance to classical music with scarves while pretending to fly like birds.         &lt;br /&gt;We will be off next week for Spring Break. We will be writing words that have “ar” and “er” in our journals.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible, we will be talking about being joyful and sing “Down In My Heart”. The children will be making their own Joyful pop-up card and reading Acts 16. We will be making smelly fruits with different flavors of jello. We will practice the Fruits of the Spirit song and draw pictures of what makes us feel joyful or happy.&lt;br /&gt;We will be playing Bird Bingo in Science and reading about Jupiter. Each child will color the state bird and flower of Colorado. They enjoyed painting the Purple Finch. Each child has a baggy to find something smelly to share in class. Please help them to return it to share with the class by Thursday.&lt;br /&gt;The children will be starting their new Math Workbook this week. We will be working on writing the days of the week, telling time, and adding numbers.&lt;br /&gt;In Nature/Gardening we will harvest radishes from our garden. We will smell and plant chives, basil, spearmint, peppermint, lavender, dill, rosemary, and thyme. In Poetry the children will narrate a poem about geese flying. We will continue to learn about our Five Senses. This week we will be doing several activities using our sense of smell. We will introduce a lesson with Montessori materials to compare and match smells. We will also play a Hide and Smell game. We will read about the planet mars and how it has red dust.&lt;br /&gt;In Social Studies, we will finish making our stick horses and have a rodeo with relay races. We will read L is for Lonestar and Armadillo Rodeo.&lt;br /&gt;In Nature Study, the children will paint the purple finch and purple lilac. This is the New Hampshire bird and flower.&lt;br /&gt;In Math, we will begin learning about fractions. The children will learn what half and quarter means. The children will practice writing numbers 1-60.&lt;br /&gt;In Phonics, we will be reading words that begin with the letter “h”. Each child will be practicing how to write letter “j” and “h”. We are continuing to practice reading Surfer Girl.&lt;br /&gt;In Bible, we will be finishing the Fruit of the Spirit, Love. Each student will draw one thing that they love the most. On Thursday, we will send a baggie home with the children. In Social Studies we will be learning about Missouri and New York. We will read Peter Learns Something He Hadn’t Guessed from The Burgess Bird Book. This story is about a bluebird and robin. We will continue studying about Texas and start making our stick horses for our rodeo.&lt;br /&gt;  In Science, we will read about the planet, Mars and begin learning a song about all of the planets.
