January 9-12

In Social Studies we will be reviewing Egypt on a map and identifying Greece. The children will narrate about the Ancient Greeks and paint a picture of a horse and chariot.
In Language/Writing some of the students will begin learning how to write cursive letters. We will be practicing tracing letter a and b this week. Other students will be practicing writing D’Nealian letters.
In Reading the children have been doing a great job with their leveled readers and sight words. Please be sure to practice reading with your child each week.
In Science we will observe a type of aluminum boron silicate that forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks. Tourmaline can come in a variety of colors due to any change in its composition.
School will be closed next Monday, January 16th for Martin Luther King Day.

January 2-5

In Science we will begin learning about Rocks. We will be reading about the igneous rocks and observe a diagram of real igneous rocks that are displayed in our Science Center. We will also practice sorting different colors of rocks.
In Social Studies the children will be reviewing facts about Egyptian Life by matching Egyptian stickers and placing them in the correct places.
In Music the children will “ice skate” together as they listen to Nocturne No. 8 in D Flat Major by Chopin.
In Bible we will be learning about Joseph and his coat of many colors. The children will be painting their own coat of many colors. We will also be reading and narrating about Moses and doing a color by number picture of baby Moses.
Please be sure to send a warm jacket each day. Also, please place a snack in the basket by the classroom door each day for our afternoon snack time.

December 5-8

The children will be making their own Christmas cards to take home this week. We will also be decorating wreaths and learning about Christmas wreaths and learning about Christmas in Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
We will listen to The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett on tape and look at all of the beautiful illustrations in the book. The children will be narrating the important parts of the story aloud.
We will be reading about the "Shepherds Visit to Baby Jesus", why the "Wise Men Follow the Star", and when the "Wise Men Give Their Gifts" from the Bible in Pictures by Kenneth Taylor.
We will be having our Christmas Party this Thursday, Dec. 8th at 2:30. Please be sure to bring the items that you signed up for in the hallway. We need enough for 14 children.
Christmas break will begin next week. We will look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, January 2nd. Have a great holiday!
