May 16-19

“The Wizard of Oz” Play was fantastic. The students that participated did a wonderful job and looked great in their costumes.
We will be reading and narrating about “Breathing” from the Christian Liberty Nature Reader. We will also be learning about our digestive system and organs. The children will take turns wearing the organ apron and as we learn the different names.
The children picked pea pods from the garden and got their picture taken for their Nature Journals. They also observed and picked the ripe tomatoes off of the tomato vine.
We will be reading “ mmm” from Kkk. The children will be copying the scripture on paper and coloring illustration that goes with the verse.
Summer Registration forms are due by next week. Please turn in your forms to Mrs. Hague. Our last day of school is Thursday, May 26th. Summer school will begin on June 13 after our 2 week break.

May 9-12

The children enjoyed learning about the brain last week. We will continue to read and learn the parts of the brain. This week we will be reading and narrating about our “Bones” from the Christian Liberty Nature Reader. The children will be cutting and pasting the names of the bones next to the different parts of the skeleton.
We will read about Jesus clearing the temple from John 2:12. The children will be narrating why they think Jesus made the sellers leave the temple and making their own book to take home.
“The Wizard of Oz” play will be held at Trinity Christian Church this Thursday in Fort Worth. The play will begin at 7:00. There is a $5 admission fee per person at the door. Children that will be performing in the production need to be at the church dressed in costume for practice by 5:30.
We have snack time in the afternoon. Please be sure to send your child a healthy snack each day. There is a basket by the front door of the classroom where students may put their snack each day.
Katie Beth will be joining our classroom for the next 3 weeks of school. We are glad that she is able to be a part of our class. Please be sure to welcome the Herd family to the Flint Academy.

May 2-4

We will begin studying the Human Body. We will be learning about the Brain this week.
The children will be playing the Texas Bingo game. This will review the Texas symbols that the students have learned.
Some of the students have started learning 2 digit addition. Others are learning 3 digit subtraction. Be sure and practice counting by 5’s and 10’s at home each evening to help with counting coins (nickels, dimes).
Our School Play, “The Wizard of Oz” will be on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00pm. We are practicing the songs in class.
School will be closed this Thursday, May 5 for Cinco de Mayo.

April 25-28

The children will begin making their own Recycling Book that includes all the different things that people can recycle.
We will be learning about the different clothing items that cowboys wear when riding a horse or lassoing a longhorn. We will read about how ranchers brand their cows to show ownership of their livestock. We will be making western necklaces to wear on Texas Field Day. The boys will string red, yellow, and blue beads with a cowboy boot, cowboy hat, and a badge. The girls will bead purple, pink, and white beads as well as a white horse, cowgirl hat, and cowgirl boot.
Texas Field Day will be this Thursday, April 28 at 12:00. We will cook and eat hot dogs, beans, and cornbread before going to the different Texas themed stations around the playground area. Please be sure turn in $5 to pay for the hot dogs that we will be cooking and eating at our Texas Field Day on Thursday. Beans, cornbread, and drinks will be provided by the other classrooms.

April 18-20

Some of the children have been working very hard at completing their Primary Phonics Workbooks. Others have been writing words in their Explode the Code Workbooks.
We will be talking about the Alamo and where it is located. The children will use their watercolors to paint the picture of the Alamo for their portfolio.
Please send $5 by this Wednesday so that we can buy the hot dogs and buns for the Texas Field Day next Thursday, April 28th at 12:00.
Our Easter Party will be on Wednesday at 2:30. We will do the Easter Egg Hunt first on the playground. Please bring 12 plastic filled eggs for our egg hunt on Wednesday. Be sure to tape the outside of each egg so they do not come apart.

April 11-14

We will continue learning about recycling. The children will be learning about the process of recycling glass. They will also make their own organic garbage book.
The children We will be learning about the bluebonnet and reading and narrating The Legend of the Bluebonnet. We will be observing the bluebonnet and sketching it for their Nature Journals. We will also be planting the bluebonnets in the garden.
Our field trip to Veteran’s Park is this Wednesday, April 13. We will be leaving at 9:30. Please return the permission form by Tuesday. Be sure to let us know whether you will be attending and how many children you can transport to the park. We will be eating lunch at the park. Please send a lunch and a water bottle to take on the field trip.
We will be having our Easter Egg Hunt & Party next Wednesday, April 20. Please send 1 dozen (12) plastic filled eggs by Tuesday, April 19th. Be sure to tape the eggs on the outside so they don’t come apart. The children will make their own basket next week to use at the egg hunt. We will have a sign up sheet in the hallway for our party.
