October 3-6

If you were not able to attend Open House be sure to look in the hallway and read all of the planet facts and clay nameplates the children created.
We will begin learning about the earth this week and will read On Earth by Brian Karas. The children will also practice learning the names of the planets in order.
The children will be planting broccoli seeds in our garden. They have enjoyed observing the big zuchhini that we have grown from the zucchini plant. It will continue to bloom and produce more zucchini.
This week we will be learning about the Spearmint plant that we will be planting in the herb garden. The children will watercolor this herb to put into their Nature Journals. This herb was used by the Egyptians in Egypt.
We will finish learning about the long "a" silent e and begin learning words that have the long "i" sound as in dive. We will also talk about Compound Words and how we take two seperate words and combine them into one word. (Ex. lady & bug= ladybug)

No education seems to be worth the name which has not made children at home in the world of books, and so related them, mind to mind, with thinkers who have dealt with knowledge. — Charlotte Mason
