Oct. 18-21

The Flint Academy Fall Fest is this Saturday, October 23 from 11:00 to 2:00. Our class will be sponsoring the Bounce House/Slide and Grab bags. Mrs. Hague and Mrs. Camp will be handling the booth in order to allow the parents to supervise and be with their children. This is a great opportunity for the children to experience the Fall Fest with their friends. It is always so much fun.
Please bring $18 to help pay for our Fall Fest bounce house and slide booth. . (This will include unlimited turns for the Pre-K thru 2nd grade children). You may bring cash or write a check to Blaire Hague by this Wednesday, October 20th.
We will be reading the Aesop Fable called “The Wolf and the Crane”. We will talk about which character in the story was a friend and which one they would choose to be friends with.
The children will be painting the Lifecycle of a bean plant and pasting the pictures in the correct order. They enjoyed planting their beans in the garden last week. We will look forward to watching them grow in our garden.
In Music we will play a leaf identification game called “Musical Leaves” as we listen to Mozart’s “String Quartet #17 in B Flat Major”.

Oct. 12-14

We will be going to River Legacy Science Center this Thursday, Oct. 14th. We will be eating an early lunch and leaving at 11:30. Please be sure to wear tennis shoes instead of sandals since we will be going on a nature hike.
If you have not turned in your $14.00 for the field trip to River Legacy Science Center please turn it in by Wednesday. If you are writing a check make it out to Mrs. Hague since we have to pay cash when we get to the Science Center.
In Science we will be reading about Autumn and the different parts of a plant. We will be drawing and painting the different kinds of pumpkins and gourds for our Nature Journals as well as making patterns. In Social Studies we will be reading about what it is like to be a Vet. The children will get to play with the pet carriers and vet tools in the Centers Room.
In Bible we will be reading about Adam and Eve. The children will begin copying Genesis 2:7 for dictation. They did an awesome job illustrating and copying Genesis 1:1-5
In Poetry we will begin learning a poem by Joyce Kilmer called “Trees” since we have been learning about trees.

Oct. 4-7

The children will be doing a picture study on Merigolds. We will talk about the different colors, shapes, and sizes they observed from the painting. Students will try to paint the picture of the Merigold by the observations they made from the picture of the painting.
In Math some of the students will be practicing the different names of coins as well as counting coins by twos. Some of the students will be working on counting numbers and telling time on a clock.
We will be reading what is like to work as a nurse. The children will be coloring and labeling different tools that a nurse or doctor may use with patients. We have also read what a nurse has to get ready each day before patients arrive for their appointments. The children will be playing a matching game of all the things that you might see a doctor’s office. We will also be talking about the different things that you could see at a hospital.
Please be sure to send a snack each day for snack time. The children need to place their snack in the basket by the door each day. Each child needs to be sure to bring their folder so they can carry work home at the end of each day.
Please turn in the permission slip for the River Legacy Field trip by this Thursday along with the admission fee ($12 per child). Be sure to let us know if you will be attending the field trip (adults are free).

Sept. 27-30

The children have enjoyed making Creation Scenes on sticks for Days 1-4. This week we will color and read about Day 5. We will also draw pictures to go along with the Scripture the student’s have been copying.
The students will choose one favorite food to draw that they might cook if they became a chef. This week we will be reading about what it is like to be a Television Reporter.
In Science the children enjoyed labeling and coloring the parts of a tree. This week each student will be a special tree on the playground and do a “bark rubbing”.
In Music we will be doing the “Leaf Dance” to Mozart’s “Horn Concerto No. 2 in E Flat Major”. We will also learn the motions to “Leaves are Falling”.
Open House is this Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3:00 p.m. Please let me know if you will be attending.
We will be going on a Field Trip to River Legacy Science Center on Thursday, October 14. There will be hands on nature centers and a guided hike. The cost is $12 per child (adults are free). We will eat an early lunch at school and leave at 11:30. The tour starts at 12:00. Please let me know if you will be attending the field trip with your child. A permission slip will be sent home to sign and return.
