Our Field Day will be at school this year with a Texas Theme on Tuesday, May 25th. More details will be posted soon.
In Gardening we will be planting a watermelon and canteloupe plant into the Vegetable Garden. We will also plant lavender in the Butterfly Garden.
In Music we will be using instruments to the songs "New River Train" and "Working on the Railroad". We will also play "Shaking Hands" with the parachute.
We will be reading about the San Jacinto Monument, which marks the site of the final battle of the Texas Revolution. We will learn about how the city of Austin is named in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the father of Texas. The students will also learn that the State Vegetable is the sweet onion and the State Pepper is the jalapeno.
In Math some of the students will be tracing and counting the number 18. Other students will be practicing counting coins.
May 4-6
The children have been doing really well learning the poem, "Where Go the Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson using motions. This week we will begin learning the third stanza.
In Social Studies we will be reading Our Texas while learning about the Lone Star State's history and sites of the Texas Revolution. We will also learn that the State Dish is Texas Chili.
The children have enjoyed learning about air and water. We will begin to learn about things that move on land such as cars, trucks, trains, bikes etc. This week we will read about different kinds of motor sports cars. We will als begin learning about the sense of taste. The children will be sorting foods that are sweet and sour using a Venn Diagram.
In Math some of the students will be working on writing and counting numbers 16 and 17. Other students will be working on geometric shapes and using greater than, less than, and equal signs.
In Music the children will use instruments to the song "The Red Car". In Creative Movement we will learn new movements with the parachute. The children will learn to do the "Snap" movement and the "Flip Flop" motion.

In Social Studies the children will learn about the Statue of Liberty. They will decorate a crown and torch to wear.
In Science we will continue learning about the different kinds of boats. We will do several floating activities and the children will make their own book about the observations. This week we will water the Dill seeds that we planted into pots and observe them as they begin to sprout. They will also make sketches of the Sage and the Peppermint, and compare the sizes of the leaves.
In Creative Movement/Music the children will learn how to grip a parachute using the thumbs-up and thumbs-down positions. They will practice sitting, kneeling, and standing positions and learn how to execute the wave, jerk, and flip-flop movements. We will play "Balloon Float", "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", and "Exercise and Count".
Please be sure to bring an item from home that smells to share with the class in circle time.

The children will be observing the different kinds of boats in science center and will choose their 3 favorite boats to draw on their observation chart. We will be learning our sense of smell. Please help your child choose something from home to smell and share with the class on Thursday.
In Phonics some of the children will be working on tracing and writing the letter "z". Some of the students will be sorting pictures that begin with the "sh" or "s" sound. Other students will be learning how to show possession by using 's such as Matt's skates.
In Music we will be learning the song, "The Yellow Submarine" and "Raining like Magic" by Raffi.
In Bible we will be reading about God's Promise to Abraham. The children will also be making their own God's Promise book to take home from Genesis 15:1
