April 12-15

In Science, the children will be making their own helicopters this week. We will read about helicopters and gliders. We will also learn about the Wright brothers.
Most of the children have learned to recite the first stanz of "Where Go The Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will begin learning the second stanza of the poem. Please be practicing this poem at home. A copy of the poem was sent home last week.
We will be reading about how God sends Abraham to a New Land. We will read the story in circle and the children will create their own book.
In Music we will be pretending to ride in an airplane and practice rhythms with instruments to "Riding in an Airplane" by Raffi.
In Creative Movement the children will pretend to glide like an airplane to "Skyward" by Greg and Steve. We will also learn the song, "In My Garden" with motions.
We will be going to see "The Little Mermaid" at Will Rogers Coliseum this Tuesday, April 13. You can meet at the Coliseum in Fort Worth at 9:45. The play starts at 10:00 and will last 70 minutes. We will be going back to school after the play to eat lunch.

April 5-8

We will be starting a new Unit on Air, Land and Water. This week we will begin reading about air and learn who invented the hot air balloon. We will coninue to learn about our Five Senses. This week we will do a hearing activity using rubber bands.
In Social Studies we will be reading about the life of Abraham Lincoln. We will learn about his life as a little boy and as the President.
Some of the students will be reviewing counting by tens with dimes. We will also practice counting by fives using nickels. Other students will be practicing how to count by twos using pennies.
In Phonics some of the students will be learning about letter "v". They will practice tracing lowercase "v" and compare the objects that begin with letter "y" and "v". Other students will be learning Homophones such as "sea" and "see". They will also be reading words that begin with "sn" and "sm".
Our Field trip to Will Rogers Memorial Center for the production of Hans Christian Anderson's "Little Mermaid" is next Tuesday, April 13th, at 10:00. We will meet at the school at 8:45 (or you may meet us there).

March 29-April 1

The children have enjoyed reading about the different parts of a plant. We will plant seeds into little pots this week and read Seed to Plant.
In Social Studies we will be painting Nomenclature cards of the African animals for our Nature Journals. We will also be reading Way Far Away on a Wild Safari.
In Math some of the children have been working on how to write word problems using subtraction. Other students have been practicing how to write numbers.
We will be learningin the Dime song this week. The students have enjoyed learning the Quarter and Penny song. Please continue to practice these at home.
We will be having our Easter hunt on Thursday at 2:30. We will be making baskets to use for the egg on hunt. We will also decorate pot holders to take home.
We wil be going to Veteran's Park this Tuesday. We will be leaving the school at 9:45. Please send a lunch that does not need to be heated and a drink. We will eat at the park and play on the playground. Please be sure to send a jacket.
