Dec. 7-10

This week we will be learning about Christmas in Mexico. We will talk about how the children in Mexico celebrate Christmas on January 6 and put their shoes out for the Wise Men to fill with toys. We will do "The Mexican Hat Dance" in music.
In Bible we will read Luke 2:1-20 and the children will color their own book, God Sent Us a Savior. We will listen and sing with a CD of "The Birthday of a King". We will also read "Wise Men Give Their Gifts" from The New Bible in Pictures. Each child will create their own Nativity Scene with stickers.
Students will be making their own Candy Cane and Jingle Bell Snowman ornaments. We will decorate Christmas trees with ornament stickers and paint a Christmas tree on a bag to take home at the party. The children will also decorate Christmas cards with stickers to take home.
In Science we will continue working on our Zoo Cats book. We will sketch poinsettias for our Nature Journal. We will also read The Legend of the Poinsettia.
Our Christmas party will be on Thursday after lunch. Please bring 1 wrapped book to exchange at the party. We still need shirts, pants, toys and non-perishable food for the children from Mission Arlington. We also need shoes for the 6 year old boy, Alijah. There is a sign up sheet in the hall with a list of sizes for each child. Please bring these items to put in the buckets by Wednesday. They will be delivered to Mission Arlington on Thursday.

No education seems to be worth the name which has not made children at home in the world of books, and so related them, mind to mind, with thinkers who have dealt with knowledge. — Charlotte Mason
